Intel i7 Review

The Review I thought I’d Never Do

Today I will review the Intel i7-4790K processor based on my latest pc build. I have always supported and built my computers with AMD processors  up until the A series was released. I tried the AMD FX-8350 with a 990FX Sabretooth complimented with an above average video card. I couldn’t be more disappointed with the results.

As a former professional gamer, I tend to get the desire to game every now and then. To say that i have high standards would be an understatement. Even with nearly the highest tier components available, it was unbearable to play on. I started researching what else was available, I’d seen Intel’s i5 / i7 series but they were always way above my budget.

Still, I though I’d take a look. I found this older 4 th generation Intel CPU that specs showed that it would compete with the new generation models and to my astonishment was significantly cheaper. I couldn’t be more happy with the results.

I finally had a computer that I didn’t have to wait for it to load when multitasking through the work day. In gaming, where I’d struggled to get 120fps I was now getting 500+fps. The base clock on this beast is a staggering 4.0GHz, it claims turbo up to 4.4GHz but with proper cooling I was easily able to get it stable at 4.8GHz.

As much and I love and support AMD, they need to get back to competing against Intel. Until then, I’ll just have to wait while enjoying this new rig.
